This morning I awoke with a dream which seemed to be suggesting that ATTACHMENT - carrying the baggage of the past around with us -causes suffering whilst DETACHMENT -moving on by letting the past stay in the past frees us, allowing the POINT OF POWER — TO BE OURS IN EVERY MOMENT.

THE POINT OF POWER IS OURS when we honour the fact that the past has gone, the future is yet to come, all we have is the present moment.

THE POINT OF POWER IS OURS when we can take on board the Serenity Prayer as per yesterday’s blog — -’God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the the things I can and Wisdom to know the difference’.

Yesterday I chose for the Point of Power not to be mine, at least for a couple of hours, because I chose to become attached to the fact that I was unable to make an appointment with a doctor. I have now been able to drop that ‘baggage’ and today the problem seems largely to have solved itself!

When we are ATTACHED to something — whatever the ‘thing’ to which we are attached is = we are not free to embrace each moment on its own merits because the rational ‘monkey’ mind is going over and over the same thing and not FEELING our feelings in the Soar Plexus (that area where it feels the bottom has dropped out of us when we receive shock news).

I find that what I call the Butterfly Meditation helpful in allowing us to stay with our feelings. This involves closing our eyes and imagining the thoughts in our heads as butterflies. The purpose of the meditation is simply to feel the energy of the ‘butterfly’ and feel this energy descending down into our Solar Plexus area. This allows us to relax this area and to ‘feel’ those feelings from which are rational minds are trying to escape through constantly thinking. Once the Rational Mind is stilled through concentration on the Soar Plexus area we are able to pose questions to it such as: ’What do I fear? ‘From what am I trying to escape? ‘What am I worried will or will not happen?’; What is making me feel sad, happy, angry etc and to hear the answers whilst at the same time being aware of the feelings which arise and fall in the Solar Plexus and noting the Rational Mind’s reaction to these feelings.
