22 September 2020- WALKING THROUGH THE WORLD HARMLESSLY
This title is one of my favourite quotes: it comes from the Buddhist teaching. It is on my mind at the moment because I have just come back from walking along a path which is a short cut from the pavement but which few people use AND YET it is full of litter.
It did, however, give me the opportunity to tune into the trees and the water, nature generally, in an attempt to ascertain whether the litter took away from the ENERGY of the beautiful setting.
The answer was NO, the ENERGY of the place was still there beneath the impediments, amongst which I include myself. However, in order to ‘tune in’ and feel the energy I needed to stop the rational mind’s incessant thinking and condemnation around people who left litter especially when there are rubbish bins not far away.
AND then it did occur to me that perhaps I should have more compassion and understanding as I suspect that the people leaving the litter are mainly homeless people who have so many problems of their own to deal with that they are totally unaware of the surroundings or, how they affect the ‘beauty spot’ by leaving litter.
