25 August 2022 — Don’t JUDGE each day by the harvest you reap but by the SEEDS you plant. (Robert Louis Stevenson)

The title of yesterday’s blog was entitled IMPATIENCE and sometimes we expect our good deeds to yield results — bring us benefits — immediately. Very often we are not even aware of the effect of our actions on others. For example some homeless people with whom I pass the time of day but apologise for having no change to give them, tell me that it is enough to be spoken to, to be acknowledged, as so many people ignore them and it makes them feel invisible. In that case, of course, I do ‘reap the harvest’ from the seeds I plant.

Similarly in our own lives we do not always receive the benefits of changing our behaviour patterns immediately, but over time we become aware of how our lives have changed for the better. The advice of Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of Treasure Island and many other books, who died in 1894 is still pertinent to our lives today.

DON’T JUDGE EACH DAY BY THE HARVESTYOU REAP BUT BY THE SEEDS YOU PLANT.

Ponder points: my thoughts on reading the above are ……my feelings on reading the above are ….. occasions when I have become upset because I felt I should have benefitted by my actions but didn’t, are ….
