29 May — HELPFUL, UNHELPFUL, DISMISSIVE

These are three different ways of being. How one comes across to others is generally dependant upon how the ‘other’ is feeling. People have stopped me in the street to ask me if I was OK for no other reason than that I am one very old lady.

On some level as individuals we do not see ourselves as getting old — that tends to be something which happens to other people and not ourselves.

To be ‘helpful’ to others is surely the aim of most people except, of course, when something has upset them and they feel angry and cross with life generally and with other people.

Generally we tend to ‘dismiss’ things which happen to us which we wished hadn’t happened and try to forget it happened — in a sense we create our own reality

PONDER POINTS: my feelings when I read this were ….I feel that generally I am helpful to others …how I feel about getting older is ….
