5 APRIL 2022 — LABELLING OTHERS
Yesterday a group of young boys passed me and told each other to ‘mind the old lady’. Why I reflected did they need to use the adjective ‘old’ instead of merely saying ‘mind the lady’.
They were obviously decent young men in that they had consideration for me and didn’t just brush past me and to them, of course, I am old. I remember when I too thought that people 10 years older than myself were very old. For some reason when was in young one fails to consider the fact that ageing happens to us all.
This incident also caused me to consider why we have the need to put people into boxes, as it were, by labelling them rather than just seeing them as people like ourselves. It is, of course, a natural thing to do and is a part of our ego’s need to define ourselves and see ourselves separately from others. If only we were able to stay in formless energy knowing that we are a part of ALL THAT IS I think we and the world we live in would be a much better place!
