6 May 2022 — IT’S KINDNESS THAT MAKES THE WORLD GO AROUND

This was said to me this morning by a stranger I met whilst crossing on a ferry boat. A statement with which one can’t really argue! However, I did have reason to doubt this person’s integrity.

It has gotten me questioning on what ‘kindness’ actually is. I would like to think of myself as ‘KIND’ but I know in some instances I am not. Well, perhaps not so much not kind as BOSSY and SELFISH!

BOSSY because I tend to reprimand people I consider to be breaking the rules like cyclists riding across a bridge which politely asks them to dismount. I have been known to say to cyclists ‘can’t you read!’ AND I know full well that it is none of my business. Yesterday i was crossing said bridge with a friend when a cyclist rang his bell at us to get out of his way. My friend obliged but I refused to, so the cyclist went down the other lane which is for people coming in the opposite direction.

In the situation with the cyclists, BEING KIND I suspect, means allowing the cyclists to make their own choice.

Time I stopped being a CRITICAL PARENT!
