‘GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE. COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN AND WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.

I have no idea where this saying comes from, it is written on a plate I have at home. Each time it catches my eye I reflect how wise it is and how much better family and community life would be if people were only able to follow it.

However, (and there always seems to be an ’however’ where I’m concerned!) I think it needs to be clear that when things can be changed those ‘things’ must surely refer to ‘things’ we can change within ourselves and our personal environment. and NOT mean trying to change others to fit in with us!
